UWACS and I go back a long way….

When I was in my early 20’s I figured that after learning piano as a youngster without much success, singing might be the best way for me to be involved in musical performance. At the time I was in my final year of a Business degree at UWA so I joined UWACS as I knew they performed the great choral masterpieces with orchestra. The first concert I sang with them was Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion. Not long after that we sang the Verdi Requiem, Haydn’s Creation and of course Messiah. As Helen Edmonds rightly said at the time; “that’s it you’ll be hooked for life now.” How right she was: These musical experiences changed my life as I went on to study music at UWA where I incidentally won the UWACS award for top student in music history. Now after much study and professional work as an opera and concert singer, it is always a great joy to be engaged as a soloist with UWACS and see many of the same friendly faces from over 20 years ago!
