CHOIR DINNER

After the Messiah performance, choristers, friends and family are invited to a late dinner (9.30 pm) at the Thai Gold Plate Restaurant, Stirling Highway (near Gordon St). Cost is $35 per person, BYO (no corkage fee). Please add your names to the booking sheet. Payment needs to be made by Wednesday 17 December to Meredith Lane. Cheques need to be made out to UWACS.

INTERPRETING THE TEXT - MESSIAH

Rev Dr Ian Robinson spoke with some members of UWACS about Handel's The Messiah in October.
Ian offers an opportunity to talk about Part 2 on Wednesday night 12 November from 6:307:15pm in G5 or the Common Room of the School of Music prior to rehearsal.
This is an opportunity to think about The Messiah from a biblical perspective and for UWACS to connect in a different way with UWA.
The committee hopes you will bring your dinner and your questions.

AUDITIONS

Tis the season to be auditioning and re- auditioning. While the process is designed to be as painless as possible, we all know that it is hard to sing in front of people who know what we are singing! It will help the process if you either:
      a. stay and act as the ‘backing group’, ready to sing (accurately) the rest of the parts of ‘And the Glory of the Lord’, or
      b. leave as quickly and quietly as you can!
Thanks!

SINGING LESSONS

In 2009, the Committee will support choristers who are concerned about their voice production, tonality, vibrato or breathing to take voice lessons. The committee will subsidise up to three lessons to help you address a specific issue. There will be application forms on the piano. All you need to do is fill in the form and have a chat to Burhan about why you want the lessons. The committee will provide up to $15/lesson (which should be about half the costs).

We are currently compiling a list of suitable singing teachers. If you know of someone you think is good, please let Irene Batini know!

MEMBERSHIPS

UWACS Membership fees cover the costs of rehearsals: the venue, the musical director and the accompanist. If you are singing in rehearsals, it is expected that you will pay a subscription. If you are new to the choir, or have paid a partial membership, you will receive your subscription fee in the next week or two.

PLANS FOR 2009

The committee is working on a program of music for 2009, but the dates are in place. So please mark in your diaries, the following:

Sunday afternoon, 2:30pm, 31 May at Winthrop Hall
Sunday afternoon, 2:30pm, 4 October at Winthrop Hall
Sunday evening, 6:30pm, 20 December at Winthrop Hall.

RUSSIAN TOUR SEPTEMBER 2008

We hope the ‘tourists’ have returned and are enjoying telling and re-telling their stories.
Ellen Clair writes: “I would like to give a special thank-you to all of the UWACS-Russian travellers for your kindness and support after I fell and cut my head in St Petersburg. Being given such encouragement and interest in my welfare I am sure helped my speedy recovery, and enabled me to enjoy the tour in spite of my mishap. Again, many thanks to you all.”
If you would like to hear more about Ellen’s saga, please ask her!
There are many others with stories to tell too!
